WHAT IS
CELEBRATE
RECOVERY?

Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered, 12 Step recovery program for anyone struggling with hurt, pain, or addiction of any kind. This is a safe place to find community and freedom from the issues that are controlling our life.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

Celebrate Recovery meets every Friday at 7 pm at our Glen Burnie Campus. Everyone meets together in a large group for a time of worship, followed by either a teaching or a testimony. Chips are handed out and people are loved and celebrated. After the large group, we break into separate gender and issue-specific groups where you can share your struggles and victories with others who are experiencing similar hurts, hangups, and habits in a safe place.

In addition to Friday night, Step Study Small Groups meet each Thursday at 7 pm at our Glen Burnie Campus. Here we work through the Jesus-centered 12 steps in separate, gender-specific groups.

Celebrate Recovery has a number of events that occur annually, monthly and weekly along with a semester based Step Study. You can find out more about these events by navigating to the Celebrate Recovery category on our registration page.

Pastor Kevin Spence
Recovery Pastor

I’m a follower of Jesus Christ in Recovery from chemical & co-dependency. I am also a Pastoral Member & Overseer of the LH Celebrate Recovery group that meets at LH GB on Wednesday and Friday nights. I have been clean and sober from the use of ALL mood-changing and mind-altering chemicals since January 1981 and have engaged in living the life-changing, transforming 12 Steps since then. Once a “pot-head” and now, by the Grace of God, a Pastor of Recovery. Through the 12 Steps and 8 Biblical Principles of CR, I realized that I was born with a hole in my soul that can only be filled with ONE THING – JESUS CHRIST. Working through these Steps and Principles of Recovery, first with my Sponsor, and since then, sponsoring scores of folks over the years, I have received the gifts of FREEDOM, HOPE, and True SALVATION that is found in an ongoing, active relationship with Christ. Here at LH, we keep it real simple: Reach the Lost and Make Disciples! Celebrate Recovery is one of the best ways I know of to do just that. Once addicted to drugs and people-pleasing; now, addicted to Christ and seeing others rescued and receive this Miraculous Gift of Recovery. I’m fond of saying, ‘There’s no high like the Most High.’

Mark Matta

I’m a Believer and Disciple of Jesus Christ, who is my Savior and Redeemer and brought me out of the bondage of alcoholism, co-dependency, and porn addiction. I came to CR to satisfy my curiosity and stayed to satisfy my soul. I’m now a servant leader in CR and deeply involved in furthering this ministry for LH and our Lord. I arrived at the doors of LHCR in 2017, sober 20+ years but still seeking growth in my spiritual life. I found men and women that have led me to Christ and back to the faith I had put on the bookshelf of life. Sponsorship, accountability, and service have been the building blocks that make life within LH and CR so amazing. In CR, all the saints have had a past, and all sinners have a future; today, none of us are perfect, and we share our victories and struggles in life and faith. We were in a Step Study session one day, and Pastor Kevin turned to me and asked, “What is holding you back from giving yourself fully to God and his plan?” I like to think I’ve always had a relationship with the Almighty, but the answer to that question has charged my spiritual life and faith ever since. In order to grow, I had to give up my old beliefs to outgrow the old ideas that I had of faith and church. I was baptized on Easter 2018 following the support and instruction given by LHCR that led me to the Lord’s grace in a way I will be grateful for the rest of my life. I’ve even found a full life with friends and a sponsorship; not bad for a once doubter and skeptic. God does for me what I can’t do for myself, and He has. Every day I pray in gratitude for the gifts He has given me and the grace He has in mind for me in the future.

I struggled with drugs for 44 years, and at the ripe young age of 55, I was at the end of my rope. I was rescued from the pit of hell by Jesus Christ while in rehab. I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and was radically transformed in a split second! I am delivered, pardoned, and freed from all my transgressions, all of my trespasses and sins! Today my identity is in Christ Jesus, who defines me! I owe Jesus my life; He can have my life. He saved my life, so I give Him my life, for eternal life! Clean and somewhat lean, I am working on 4 years, 7 months, and 3 days of sobriety at the writing of this testimony! I’m a contributor, not just a consumer! I’m involved, connected, and engaged with Celebrate Recovery and LH church. I’m a CR servant leader, an LH Men’s group leader, Greeter, and serve on the Prayer response team at LH. I’m so grateful to serve for the Lord and that He put me right where I needed to be! Simple church, simply Jesus!
