It’s so easy to let our faith become stagnant, to just drift from week to week without any life change. At Lighthouse, we believe the solution to this problem is LH Groups. These groups, which meet weekly all over Anne Arundel County, are led by passionate followers of Jesus who would love to have you stop by.
Upon arrival at an LH Group, you’ll be warmly greeted by fellow believers who desire to learn more about God and the Bible. You’ll have opportunities to make connections, build friendships, and be both challenged and encouraged by other Christians.
LH Groups are the best way to get connected and grow spiritually here at Lighthouse. If you’re tired of drifting, if you want more substance in your spiritual life, then check out the groups that meet. Stop by. Meet someone new and grow in your relationship with Christ.
Here are some stories of how LH Groups have had an impact:
You can join, stop by, or visit an LH Group at anytime during the semester. Upon arrival, you’ll be warmly greeted by group members who are excited to have you join them.
LH Groups run on a four month semester schedule. This allows you to check out a group without feeling locked in to a long term commitment. It also gives our leaders time to take a break and recharge. Our upcoming semesters are listed below:
Fall Semester: August-November
Off Months: December-January
Spring Semester: February-May
Off Months: June-July
Some groups may deviate from this schedule slightly. Start dates are posted under group info as well as in the LH Group Directory booklet. Feel free to contact your group leader with any schedule questions.
At Lighthouse Church, we place a great deal of importance on LH groups. We view weekly, informal, biblically based meetings as essential to our development as Christians and as an essential expression of our church’s mission. Here are six reasons to participate in a LH group:
1. Understand the Bible better through group discussion as you apply the Bible to your own personal situations.
2. Develop close relationships with other believers who will walk beside you in your journey as a Christ follower.
3. Find answers to the needs in your life through group prayer.
4. Get support in times of crisis or difficulty from people who really care about you.
5. Demonstrate to your friends the love of Jesus Christ in a non church setting.
6. Move from being a spectator to a participant by using your gifts and talents as you serve others.
LH group participation is for adults only. Childcare is coordinated within each group and is based on the current make up of the group. Some groups have sitters while other groups rotate childcare duties between the women of the group. Most groups charge a fee for childcare, but check with your leader for more information on cost.
There are no prerequisites to attend a LH group. LH groups are comprised of believers from all walks of life and maturity levels. Our view is that no matter how experienced, or inexperienced a person may be, they can benefit from the influence of a community of believers who worship Jesus, love one another, and personalize the mission of Lighthouse Church. LH groups are about learning how to connect with other believers, studying the Bible together, and serving one another.
At Lighthouse, we believe in empowering our group leaders to teach what they are passionate about. While many of our leaders teach through a church-provided study guide based on Sunday’s sermons, other groups study a different curriculum or books of the Bible. Be sure to check out the ”curriculum” section of each LH Group to see what they’re studying.
No one is forced to answer questions, ask questions, or lead the group. We all move at a different pace and our group leaders understand that everyone has different comfort levels. You will not be forced to pray out loud or do anything that makes you uncomfortable. We do, however, encourage group members to participate as much as possible. Experience shows that many times, what we get out of groups is what we put into it.
There are a few ways you can find the right group: You can look through the groups listed on this page and contact the leaders, visit different groups to see what fits, or call the church offices at 443.517.6042. Our desire is to get you plugged in, so please feel free to ask for more information!
There is no price for attending an LH Group. However, if your group is studying a curriculum you may need to purchase some material. If you cannot afford the material, the church may be able to assist you in your purchase. For questions concerning this, please contact your LH Group leader.
